Activism
I volunteer for local and national organizations to raise awareness and advocate for legislation on critical issues like climate change, outdoor recreation, and blood clot survivors.
“Somebody’s got to do it” isn’t the sexiest slogan for volunteer work. But it’s an honest one. I use my skills in storytelling, strategy, and collaboration to voice issues that impact all of us and spark lasting change. That’s because I want to live in a world where we still have snow-filled winters; clean air and water; and happy, healthy people living their best lives.
I do policy & advocacy work at the state and federal level to lobby for outdoor and climate-centered policy, like the EXPLORE Act. This includes training sessions with Congressional Management Foundation and trip to Washington, D.C. to speak with lawmakers in person.
As a bilateral pulmonary embolism survivor, I’m passionate about raising awareness for blood clot prevention and research. That’s why I’ve partnered with the National Blood Clot Advocacy Institute (NBCA).
In the summers, I take samples of red algae growing on snow in alpine environments, supporting research conducted by Western Washington University.
As the Cascade Section Chair, I managed our social media channels and organized local events to educate and empower climbers, from trail and crag clean-up days to a presentation highlighting the Green River Valley Alliance.
I’ve been skiing for 58 months straight, including months like August and September. I’m doing this project to raise awareness around the climate crisis, documenting how the places I love change over the year, year over year.
